DGE3 opens FOTOhub's expansion tranche - total commitment reaches $10.8M as the platform approaches 1 million users

When we closed FOTOhub's Seed program at the end of July, we said plainly what came next: not another proof-of-product round, but a dedicated expansion tranche built to fund international footprint, infrastructure, and headcount. Today that tranche opens. DGE3 Investment is deploying an additional $2.2 million into FOTOhub.app, taking our total committed capital to $10.8 million - and we are doing it in the month the platform crossed 920,000 registered users, on a trajectory that puts one million within reach inside this quarter.

This is the fourth check we have written into the same thesis in under eight months, and it remains, by a wide margin, the largest position in the history of our fund. We are not going to pretend that is a conventional way to run a portfolio. It is a response to a company that has beaten every operating model we have built for it, in every quarter since we first wired capital, and that is now within sight of a user milestone almost no European AI-native platform has reached at this stage of its life.

The capital ledger, stated precisely

We want the record to be unambiguous, because FOTOhub's capitalization has moved faster than most public trackers have been able to reflect. Here is the complete picture as of today:

DateRound / trancheAmountLead
Jan 14, 2026Angel$100KMateusz Ulewicz
Feb 21, 2026Seed$6.1MDGE3 Investment
Jun 14, 2026Non-equity assistance-Amazon Web Services

Jun 29 / Jul 28, 2026Seed follow-on (upsized from $2.3M)$3.8MDGE3 Investment
Aug 28, 2026Expansion tranche$2.2MDGE3 Investment

That brings DGE3's cumulative commitment to FOTOhub to $10.8 million across three instruments, and FOTOhub's total capitalization to approximately $12.3 million across six rounds in under nine months. The step most trackers have not yet captured is the July upsize, when we raised the second Seed tranche from $2.3 million to $3.8 million rather than open a new instrument. Anyone reconciling FOTOhub's funding history against an $8.6 million figure is reading the ledger as it stood before that upsize closed. This post, and the table above, is the current position.

920,000 users, and what the last sixty days actually looked like

The reason this tranche exists is the shape of the growth curve, not the size of any single number on it. FOTOhub reported 460,000 registered users when we led the Seed in February. It crossed 600,000 in April, 750,000 in June, and passed 920,000 in August. That is roughly 170,000 net new users added since our last operating update, and it means the platform is adding users at a faster absolute rate now, at nearly a million accounts, than it was at half that scale. Curves are supposed to flatten as the denominator grows. This one has not.

The composition of that growth is what makes it investable rather than merely impressive:

  • Paid acquisition remains below 10% of signups. More than ninety percent of new accounts still arrive through direct traffic, referral from social platforms where users are sharing outputs they generated in FOTOhub, and organic search. The growth input is the product, not the media budget.
  • Paid conversion is holding at 9.5% against a category benchmark of three to five percent. Conversion rates normally decay as a funnel widens, because later cohorts are less qualified than early adopters. FOTOhub's has not decayed while the base nearly doubled, which is the single most encouraging data point in this update.
  • Net revenue retention remains above 145%. Existing accounts keep expanding into new studios, new modalities, and higher tiers.
  • Week-eight retention sits at 62%, against an AI-tools benchmark of thirty-one to thirty-eight percent. That is engagement in the territory of consumer social products rather than creative software.

The product surface that is doing the work

None of the above is a marketing outcome. It is a consequence of what the platform has become technically since Seed. FOTOhub now orchestrates 226 active AI models from twelve providers across image, video, audio, speech, text, 3D, and virtual try-on, exposed through 267 documented REST endpoints, all behind one API key, one credit wallet, and one billing system. The orchestration layer the team calls FOTOcore routes each request to the right model or chain of models on cost, latency, and quality, which is the piece that lets a catalog of that size behave like a single product rather than a directory of vendors.

Two structural developments since our last update matter more than the model count. First, FOTOhub completed a full production consolidation onto Amazon Web Services, now running across five regions on three continents with Frankfurt as the default European region, and was accepted into the AWS Startup Portfolio Tier as an AWS Advanced Technology Partner. Second, the company signed a direct technical and commercial partnership with BytePlus, ByteDance's enterprise cloud division, and moved two of its strongest image models, Seedream 5.0 and Seedream 4.5, into unlimited fair-use access on paid tiers. That decision trades per-generation margin for retention on higher-priced plans, and the retention data since has vindicated it.

Developers can read the entire surface for themselves at docs.fotohub.app, which now documents the full API alongside Python and TypeScript SDKs, webhooks, S3-compatible storage, an MCP integration, and the console API. For an infrastructure investor, public documentation of that depth is a diligence artifact in its own right: it is very difficult to fake a 267-endpoint API surface with working SDKs and a changelog.

Where the $2.2 million goes

This tranche has a narrower mandate than the Seed capital that preceded it. The product question is settled. What this money buys is the ability to meet the one-million-user threshold with the infrastructure, the team, and the commercial presence to hold the position that follows it:

  • GPU and inference capacity ahead of the load step-change around the one-million mark, concentrated in the AWS Frankfurt and US-East regions.
  • DACH and UK go-to-market through the second half of 2026, in the two corridors where organic demand is already strongest without any local spend behind it.
  • Enterprise sales capacity for MENA in the fourth quarter, running through DGE3's Abu Dhabi office into media groups and digital-transformation programs across the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
  • Continued engineering hiring toward a 35-person organization, weighted to ML infrastructure and enterprise product, under the operating structure that arrived with the appointment of Natalia Siwakowska as Chief Operating Officer earlier this month.

The ecosystem signal around FOTOhub is compounding faster than the cap table

Growth of this kind eventually stops being an internal reporting line and starts showing up in public, independent signals. FOTOhub's has:

  • Independent press. In April 2026, creator-economy writer Erick Traimer published a widely shared Medium essay, "Is FOTOhub the ultimate everything-app for creators? Say goodbye to subscription fatigue," with a companion piece on an adjacent Substack the same day asking whether one platform can really replace a creator's stack. Both arrived at the same conclusion independently: FOTOhub is the first platform at genuine scale to collapse roughly five separate AI subscriptions into a single account.
  • Crunchbase Heat ranking. FOTOhub entered the ranking in April 2026 with a Growth Score of 93 and a Heat Score of 95.
  • Founder momentum. Mateusz Ulewicz, FOTOhub's Founder and CTO, now holds the #1 position on Crunchbase's global CB Rank (Person) out of more than 2.1 million tracked founders, operators, and investors - ahead of names that define the current era of artificial intelligence. CB Rank is an algorithmic momentum signal rather than an editorial list: it scores funding events, ecosystem activity, media presence, and company performance, and it updates continuously. Reaching the top of it from Bydgoszcz, with a company under nine months from its first institutional round, is the clearest external confirmation we have that the market is pricing this trajectory the way we are.
  • Strategic validation. AWS Startup Portfolio Tier acceptance and a direct BytePlus partnership are commitments that neither Amazon nor ByteDance extends to companies at this stage as a matter of routine.

Media coverage, algorithmic ranking, strategic partnerships, and organic growth are the four inputs that the technology ecosystem weights most heavily when it decides which companies are compounding. FOTOhub is accumulating all four simultaneously rather than sequentially, which is rare at any stage and close to unheard of before a Series A.

Why we keep writing checks into the same position

Our thesis has not changed since February, it has only been confirmed at higher and higher resolution. The generative AI market is projected to grow from $71.36 billion in 2025 toward $890 billion by 2032, and the fastest-growing segment inside it is multimodal orchestration rather than any single modality. The market is consolidating around platforms that unify best-in-class models rather than tools that own one of them. FOTOhub was architected for that end state from day zero, which is a fundamentally different starting position from retrofitting AI onto a legacy suite or extending a single-model tool sideways.

FOTOhub is producing Series B operating metrics on a balance sheet that has not yet seen a Series A. When a portfolio company does that for four consecutive quarters, waiting for a scheduled fundraise is not discipline, it is hesitation. DGE3 continues to seek partners for FOTOhub's $100 million Series A, and this tranche is the clearest statement we can make to prospective co-investors: we are putting our own capital in ahead of asking for theirs. Growth funds, corporate venture arms, and strategic investors in cloud, media, and AI infrastructure who want exposure to the European leader in creative AI orchestration should write to us at invest@vcdge3.com.

A fourth check in eight months is not caution, it is conviction. FOTOhub is closing on a million users faster than any model we wrote, and it is doing it without diluting retention or monetization on the way. When we see that pattern, our job is to add capital, not to wait for the market to confirm what our own data already tells us. - Dmitri Evanov, Managing Partner, DGE3 Investment
